Losing a pet may well be one of the most
difficult times we ever have to endure. You are hurting
and for many, there is no one who truly understands your grief.
If we are fortunate we had many happy years
with our companion. They were with us through good times
and bad times. They understood our moods and were always
there to comfort us when we were sad. Now, when we need
comforting the most, they are not there. At least not
in the physical sense.
Our friend is the reason for our pain.
And it is indeed a pain like no other. We want to know
they are safe. We want to know if there really is a Rainbow
Bridge where they are strong and healthy again. We have
to believe there is.
Watch for your friend, and listen.
They are there with just as much love in their hearts as they
have always felt for you. They don't like to see you sad
so they will give you a sign that they're OK.
The following months will be turbulent.
You will awaken in the morning and your first thought will be
about the emptiness in your heart. Throughout the day
you will feel like you are on a roller coaster ride. From
nowhere, the tears will begin to flow. If you don't think about
it for a while, you will feel guilty. This is completely
natural and is part of the healing process.
You may find it hard to believe, but there
will come a day when you will find another precious one to let
into your heart. They will never take the place of your
friend at Rainbow Bridge. They will quite simply demonstrate
to you that you are the kind of person who needs a companion
animal to love.
When that time comes your heart will once
again be filled with joy and your Bridge pet will be happy to
share that space.
There is an expression - "Pets leave
paw prints on our hearts". Those paw prints are permanent.
